"The single greatest lesson the garden teaches is that our relationship to the planet need not be zero-sum, and that as long as the sun still shines and people still can plan and plant, think and do, we can, if we bother to try, find ways to provide for ourselves without diminishing the world. "
— Michael Pollan

I wish we had lots of space for a great garden in our yard. We get by some tomatoes and other goodies in a strip on the side of the house and herbs in the window box outside the kitchen. Love fresh herbs!

I heart faces - smiles

The theme for the week at i heart faces is smiles. You just got to love that! It was so hard to pick just one shot but in the end I decided on this one. I love her connection to the camera, the light in her eyes and that genuine smile.

Bench Monday . . . {boy on the bench edition}

I saw this bench at the park and was drawn to the leading lines. I originally envisioned a profile shot with little feet dangling over the edge but my model - being one - was not cooperative preferring instead to smile for the camera. Being his mom, I'm smitten with that smile so the whole of him stayed in this shot.

115/365 . . . on the down low

This is shot for a group on Flickr called Worm's Eye View Sunday. It's a such a fun idea and a great excuse to get down on the ground and see things from a different perspective.

I saw this darling scooter parked on a side street so I went to check it out. Initially, I thought it might work for carnation pink for sixty four colors but it's too light. Regardless, it was way too cute to leave unphotographed. It's the most delightful shade of cotton candy pink. And how much do I love the coordinating helmet?

111/365 . . . take me out to the ballgame

I live in California now but I am a displaced New Yorker. I miss good bagels, a decent slice of pizza and the Yankees. My husband was kind enough to arrange for a babysitter so we could go to the game the other night when they came to town.

When I left the house yesterday I thought it was supposed to be a rainy day but it stayed clear. When I left the office the sky was so gloriously blue I just had to use it in my shot for the day.

109/365 . . . "Books fall open, you fall in. When you climb out again, you're a bit larger than you used to be"

The book is 101 Things You Should Do Before Your Kids Leave Home (by David Bordon and Tom Winters). Lots of fun simple things like flying a kite and having a lemonade stand. I like the message on this page.

My husband bought ladybugs for the garden (to eat the bad bugs). The kids had such a good time letting them out of the bucket.

I found this delightful door in San Francisco's North Beach. I love the layers of pink and red, the drips, the cracks, the crooked door frame and all it's charming imperfections.

96/101 . . . catching up from spring break

My girls (and dogs) have been out of town at my MIL's for spring break. It's been so quiet! They're back now and so is the noise. It hasn't been the most inspired week for me with limited subjects.

94/365 . . . Easter

Easter was unseasonably cold and rainy here. Those visions of the girls in pretty dresses hunting for eggs on the Church lawn will just have to wait until next year. Here's my motley crew in their Easter finery.

I missed day 92. All day meeting from 8:00 through dinner afterwards. Ah well, such is life.

93/365 . . . face paint

90/91 . . . rain or shine

Easter weekend got me a little behind. A little contrast for these two days. After taking this rainy, traffic bokeh shot I needed some glorious sun the next day to balance it out!

The Pioneer Woman

Oh, how I love her! She celebrates all the things I love - good food, family, photography. It was quite the thrill to see my picture on her site today in a group of 'green' themed photos!
